Otter POX

We are now out of Quarantine... Oscar no longer has the chicken pox... phew! They say that the incubation time is 10-15 days so I have no clue who to drop a thank you note to!
Didn' t he get his vaccine? Yes, I fully support vaccinating my children...it's just that there is a small portion of the population that though they have received all the vaccines for chicken pox can still contract them!!
Super, huh?

We were fortunate though since subsequent cases (his vaccine worked like his first exposure) are not as severe and present themselves in a-typical ways...or so I was advised! Oscar got them mostly on his arms and legs and lower belly (usually concentrated on the trunk)...almost none on his back and face...they didn't itch him hardly at all (normally they suggest duct taping oven mits to children's hands) and he didn't run a fever of note just a few days of really low grade stuff...He was pretty cheerful but I could tell he didn't feel that well...and he slept a lot (that may have been due to the bennadryl I gave him in case the pox started to itch--I swear my doctor said to do that!) so I don't really have anything to complain about except being quarantined for a little over a week...we did go shopping and stuff since I knew he wouldn't be rubbing up against anyone! He was all better and we're back in real life now.... unfortunately Oscar had a nasty run-in with the sidewalk one night as Steve had the boys out on an "adventure walk".

They were hunting dragon warriors and Oscar was on the charge when he caught the lip in an uneven part of the side walk and skidded to a stop on his lip! OUCH...he was SO brave! Steve came running in the house while I was working in the kitchen (ellie was asleep or I would have been out too!) with my sweet boy all covered in blood. Initally I though he had a bloody nose but found that he had just ground up his face!! Poor Oscar had hit so hard that little chunks of his lip were stuck in the gaps of his teeth...gross huh? Well, He cried until he had a frozen go-gurt in his hand!! Then we were able to clean him up and get him ready for bed! Thank heavens for distractions that do a good deed too!
Anyone who knows Oscar knows he's a tough kid....true to form he has not complained but once about his poor lip! We love you OSCAR!!
